It's been a long, hard and busy road the last couple of months, especially over the last 3-4 weeks, but I'm happy to say "Cowboy Movie" is now showing at McMurry University's Amy Graves Ryan Fine Art Gallery.
This past Spring I was asked by the fine arts department at McMurry to this year's alumni homecoming artist. Coincidentally, I had already made plans to make the collection for "Cowboy Movie" prior to being asked. Turned out to be good timing. Not only was it homecoming in the sense of McMurry, but also a homecoming for me to Abilene, TX, where I spent most of my formative years. All-in-all, it was a nice, but surreal experience. I don't feel as though I'm old enough to be considered an alumnus of the school, or even have an exhibit in such a setting, but I was glad to be asked, none-the-less.
I did enjoy meeting up with some former classmates over the weekend, as well as the gallery talk on Thursday. Apparently, my public speaking skills are better than I gave myself credit for. (It was recorded, so maybe it'll appear on YouTube soon. Will keep you posted.) From what I could tell the exhibit has been received well. I was thankful to get some local press, which brought through a few extra folks. You can read the write-up here.
This is actually only the first installment of "Cowboy Movie", as there are several other pieces intended for the series. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to finish all the paintings I wanted to do for the exhibit, but like most cowboy adventures there is always a continuing story.
Part one of "Cowboy Movie" is on exhibit until November 2, to which everything will ride East for a future second showing (TBD.)
Well, now that this major project is (somewhat) behind me, it's time to get back to all the other design projects and such I had to set aside. I'm glad to enjoy a day or two to chill out and relax for a change. This train may slow down for a spell, but it never comes to a complete stop.
