"Cowboy Movie: Lonesome Portraits of the Hollywood Cowboy" gets an opening date!
With roughly three weeks of production time left for this show I'm finally getting underway (no surprise there, as many people know I do some of my best work under pressure.) So, mark your calendars for Thursday, October 6, 2011 at McMurry University's Amy Graves Ryan Gallery for this year's Homecoming Alumni Art Exhibition. (McMurry University is in Abilene, TX, btw...)
Feels kind of weird to be tapped for the alumni exhibition, considering I've only been out of college since 2004, but in that time it really only feels like months, not years since I was last at McMurry. But, it is an honor, and I hope I can do the show and subject matter justice.
I've pulled all of the images for the featured portraits, and now the pre-production silk screening fun starts. I spend more time prepping art files and silk screens to be burned and printed than I do actually painting. But hey, it's all in good fun.
There will be a 'Brown Bag' gallery talk on Thursday, Oct. 6th from noon-1pm, while the opening reception will take place on Friday, October 7th from 5:30-7:30pm. I'll be talking about the work and the idea behind this collection of new paintings, so if you've ever wanted to find out more about what I do this will be a great opportunity for you.
Not entirely sure how long the exhibit will be on display in Abilene, but I figure it will be up through the entire month of October, and possibly into early November.
In other news...well, there is other stuff going on, but I need to get through this show first. I'll be ready to share the 'other stuff' soonish.
