New Posters From The Studio

Work detail is cooking up now, boy! After a dull summer of almost practically nothing (minus a few poster jobs to get me through the lull) things are kicking into high gear again, now that the fall is right around the corner.

I recently acquired two sweet poster commissions from the historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff, TX this past week, my first in what hopes to be a long-standing relationship of poster printing with the venue. If you aren't familiar with the Texas Theatre, it is the place where Dallas Police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald after allegedly assassinating President Kennedy in 1963. The theatre obviously has some historical significance, and despite the controversy, it's nice to see the theatre owners and the community embracing Dallas' checkered place in history.

This week starts their "Italian Summer" event, where they will be showing 35mm prints of Federico Fellini's masterpiece "8 1/2", as well as Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars" starring none other than cowboy bad ass himself, Clint Eastwood.

I'm pretty stoked about these posters, especially since these are two of some of my favorite films. I grew up loving Eastwood's 'Spaghetti Westerns', so creating something that is akin to the film's history is a big coup for me.

The "8 1/2" poster is a two color silk screen print (Process Cyan and Red) on bright white Finch 100lb cover stock, and measures 20.5" x 14" over all. The 'A Fistful of Dollars' poster is the same size on the same paper stock, but four colors (black, hand mixed yellow, olive and transparent orange.)

The "8 1/2" poster is currently available at the Texas Theatre for purchase, though get one quick because I have a feeling they will sell out! The "A Fistful of Dollars" poster will be available by middle-late next week, and begins screening for a limited amount of time beginning September 1st. there are also some other really bitchin' films and special events coming to the Texas Theatre soon, so be sure to check out their website for additional info.

In addition to work for Texas Theatre I've been commissioned to do some new posters for the Granada Theater, one of THE BEST live music venues in all of Dallas. I recently was commissioned to do the Ian Moore Band reunion show poster and attend the show, which blew me away (an awesome perk to doing gig posters.) Next up is a poster for the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a poster for Neon Indian and The Rapture, and printing a poster for the Manzarek-Rogers Band Halloween Party show happening October 29th! I'm really psyched about printing that poster, as it'll glow-in-the-dark.

Some really great things happening on the print end of the studio. Hope the pace keeps up, or rather...I keep up with the pace! Of course, there are also some other great things brewing, which I will share in due time.
