Next...

It's always sad to see an exhibition you've put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into finally come to a close, but it's simply the nature of the beast.

I had a really great run with "We Are Modern" over the last few months, from the stirrings of the the original idea up to the the execution of the art and the unveiling to the public, not to mention publishing a book about the show, as well. What a ride. As George Harrison said, "All Things Must Pass" and it's now time to close the lid on "Modern".

As the exhibit has officially drawn to a close there are still many things left to do during the rest of 2011. Thankfully, the work isn't slowing down any. Many design projects are currently on the table, including some new gig poster designs. A second printing of the "We Are Modern" book is in the works, in addition to a photography book collecting some of my Polaroid and iPhone photography. Additionally, there are a few other print projects I've been meaning to tackle so that I may add new art to my Etsy shop. On top of all this, I'm also submitting several portfolios to art galleries for additional gallery representation, although it's like applying for a job. It's never any fun...

A little bit of time off is definitely in order. I've capitalized on a free day here and there, but after these immediate design deadlines have been met it will be back to the beach with me, partially for some R&R and partially to continue work on the photo book. The nice thing about the iPhone is I can take a picture here and there without having to lug around bulky equipment. And with the size of the book that will be published the size of the raw photos is perfect. Late Fall is my target release date, but I'm enjoying taking my time with this. It's definitely becoming a 'for me' project. Above and at right are a couple of photos that might make it into the book. It'll be a fun project to work on over the Summer, as will everything else on the calendar.

October will get here before I know it. The next major solo show," Cowboy Movie", is set to open on Thursday, October 13th at McMurry University's Amy Graves Ryan Gallery. I've been selected as the 2011 Homecoming exhibiting artist, and this is actually the perfect place to debut my collection of Hollywood Cowboy portraits. But, as the date gets closer, I'll drop more details for you all.

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank everyone who came to see my "We Are Modern"exhibit. It was a major personal success for me and I was happy to put 'me' on the line once again. I also again have to thank everyone who have been supportive of me over the years. It sounds corny as always, but without the positive reinforcement from friends, family, fans and collectors it would be difficult to continue pushing forward. You guys are the grease that keeps this machine going.

As usual, keep your eyes peeled for more fun things always happening in the studio. Who knows what irons are currently in the fire?
