"We Are Modern" Opening Recap

Feels extremely good to finally see April 2nd come and go. Saturday night turned out to be a big success, not only in art sales for my latest exhibition, "We Are Modern", but also in terms of the response and feedback received.

I had the pleasure of meeting many new fans and collectors, and also enjoyed catching up with some of my friends and well-established collectors, as well. The newly-renovated Cameron Gallery suited all of the new paintings for this show very well, and I honestly couldn't be prouder of any body of work of mine in recent memory.

A dozen brand-new silk screen paintings on wood currently adorn the walls through mid-May, and thankfully, I get to take advantage of the built-in crowd during this year's annual DADA Art Walk, where I will also be debuting a few new additional paintings that were not unveiled during Saturday Night's opening reception. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to possibly find some other new homes for these larger paintings, as I always have more paintings I want to create. (I still have no idea what the additional work for "We Are Modern" is going to look like, but I'm sure I will soon.)

Of all the work in the show, I think I received most accolades over the new 'James Dean' piece to the left, and the 'Kennedy' piece pictured below. The Kennedys always resonate with Dallas audiences (for obvious reasons), but thought it curious that the James Dean captured most people's attentions. Either way, I'm not complaining. I'm happy the audience enjoyed the work as much as I do. Frankly, there is not one 'filler' painting in this whole lot. I'm super-amped about each painting individually, and didn't feel there was one painting I liked more than another. Each one was really important and special to paint, and I think it shows in the individual pieces.

Work is underway for the book I will be publishing soon on the exhibit. I will announce an official release date that will also coincide with the closing reception soon. I'll also post an interview I recently did with Art This Week, an incredible and informative art blog that is based here in Dallas. Be on the lookout for that soon.

I sincerely want to thank everyone who came out to the opening on April 2nd. Your support and encouragement means the world to me, and I honestly couldn't keep this momentum going without it. This latest exhibit serves as a litmus test, if you will, for a great many things I have planned for my studio. Because of the support and feedback I've received from this latest opening, I now have even more drive and ambition to continue on into the next many chapters of this expanding and blossoming career. I'm excited to see what happens next...

*Please note...photos never do the actual work any justice, however, look for the images to hit the website this week.
