For those who know me well, you are more than likely aware of my deep love for music and music history, as well as my love for art, and how much I enjoy talking 'shop' with other fellow music fans. It's been since early January of this year that I last wrote a review for my music blog "Classic Waxxx". Frankly, the latest art exhibit ate up a lot of my time, and I really couldn't spare any for writing. This doesn't mean I wasn't listening to great tunes all the while, though.
I'm happy to say my schedule has cleared up a bit, and I now have time for writing again. Next week will see the triumphant return of "Classic Waxxx" with a bit of a new take on how the blog will appeal to new and current readers.
During the blog's hiatus, I spent some time thinking about what I really want to do with it and who I want to reach out to. It didn't make sense to preach to the (vinyl) converted and to those who already know and cherish the albums I write about. You all know the stories. Instead, I decided to treat the blog as an introduction to the newbies who are looking for great music selections, but don't know where to start. Sometimes walking into a vintage vinyl record shop can be a daunting task, especially when you don't know where to start. Hopefully, "Classic Waxxx" will be a good jumping-off point for those looking to rediscover the awesomeness of vinyl records. Plus, you just never know what cool vinyl your parents or grandparents have stashed in their record cabinets. "Classic Waxxx" will be here to help you sort it all out.
My goal is to still feature albums/singles that are primarily on vinyl only. There is a treasure trove of music from the early to mid 20th century that can only be found on wax. Occasionally, I'll feature some special edition new vinyl releases and re-releases, like the exclusives that are being releases for the 4th Annual Record Store Day. (Oh boy, there are some fantastic goodies coming out this year! Check out your local indie record store on Saturday, April 16th to see what it's all about.)I think I'll kick off the relaunch of "Classic Waxxx" with a good 'ol Johnny Cash record, say like "All Aboard The Blue Train", which is a compilation album of several Cash singles from the Sun Records catalog featuring trains. Since Spring has sprung, and I'm in the mood to go mobile, I thought it would be a fitting selection. And of course, who doesn't love Johnny Cash?
If you are new to "Classic Waxxx", welcome. Not only am I trying to expose more people to the warmth and appeal of music on vinyl records, the blog also serves as a tool for me to discover more music I might not already be aware of. I think it's a great way to make the musical journey together.
As I like to say, "Classic Waxxx" is like 'porn for your ears'. Look for new posts every Tuesday and be sure to stay tuned for some cool promos I'll be featuring, beginning in May. Who knows, you may just have a chance to win some cool vintage records, t-shirts or other swell merch. Bookmark the link here.
Rock n' roll, everyone!
