The opening for "We Are Modern" is getting close. I have roughly 11 days from this point to finish all work, including varnish, photographing and making sure every painting is ready to hang.
While I had a few extra minutes set aside today, I thought I'd drop one last preview for the show before everything is officially unveiled on April 2nd at The Cameron Gallery.
I'm not quite sure what started me on this series of work, honestly. I knew the work for the exhibition really needed to stand out from everything I've done in the past, and as I've said before, "We Are Modern" marks my first really important exhibition since I started working as a full time artist. So far, I've been very excited about everything that has rolled out of the studio. I seriously think these are paintings I won't be embarrassed to look at 30 years from now.
You are only seeing bits of this latest painting, "We Are The Official Sponsors", but I promise to get it on the site closer to opening night.
I'm loving how every painting looks like bits and pieces were cannibalized from various beverage and shipping crates, especially on the edges. I've been paying special attention to the edges of the wood frames so they are just as appealing to the overall design as the painting itself.
You may have remembered reading a while back that I was working on putting a catalog of the exhibit together. Well, that is still in the works, but will not be ready in time for the opening. However, there is a book release planned for either the end of April or mid-May in conjunction with a closing reception. Details are still being worked out at the moment. Would have been great to have the catalogue ready for opening night, but seeing as how I'll still be painting up to the last minute, the catalogue release for the opening just wasn't in the cards this time. I think the wait will be worth it come the closing reception, though. There is also a chance of debuting a few more new pieces during the closing reception, just to get you kids coming back through the door.
Also, before I get ahead of myself talking about closing receptions, "We Are Modern" will also be showcased at The Cameron Gallery during Dallas' DADA Art Walk on Saturday, April 16th. The art walk will be from 2:00-8:00pm, so come check out the exhibit as well as some of the other great galleries that will be open.
Well, the work continues. Back to it...
