I must be out of my mind to be up this late and squeeze in a blog update after (another) 14 hour work day. Out of my mind? Why, yes. Yes I am.
Down to the final stretch of the work until delivery day next Thursday. Making mad progress, stirring up all sorts of new ideas as the final minutes countdown to D-Day. I know I said I wasn't going to post any more previews, but after looking through some of my process pics for the book, I came across a couple of pics of the 'Kennedy' painting I'm currently working on. Thought these were interesting shots so I thought I'd share.
I'm staying away from the obvious 'assassination' subject for this painting, as it is still a little macabre after all these years for Dallas. Besides, that is too easy of a subject. This final painting will have a bit of a positive undercurrent, if you will...observations on the 'American Dream.'
The image to the right shows half of the image of Jackie and John screened in. Sort of illustrates how ridiculous my paintings look with only the blocks of color laid out.
The painting is obviously not b/w, but this image in b/w made for an interesting look. (It also serves as a sample image for me to see what other b/w images will look like for my book.) There seems to be a massive amount of irony in this image. You'd think it would be JFK who would be missing from the picture. Honestly, there is no deep pretext here. JFK just happened to be the first person I silk screened on the painting and wanted to take a few shots of it 'in progress'. It's curious, no doubt.
In other news...this upcoming show isn't the only thing I have going on. There are actually several projects going on at once, one of which I'm really excited about and can't share until next week. Oh, the surprises you sometimes find in your email inbox. Needless to say, the next few days are going to be beyond crazy and stressful, but I'll manage. I have tons of records and tons of caffeine to keep me going. Will be time for another vacation after all of this is said and done.
Don't forget! Saturday, April 2nd, 6-9pm at The Cameron Gallery..."WE ARE MODERN" opens to the public. Just so you know, I'm most proud of this latest batch of work. It'll be worth all of the hard work, for sure.
